About The Bakery

Clark Street was founded by Zack Hall in 2014 in West Hollywood, CA out of a love and passion for making bread. Starting out in his apartment on Clark Street, hence the name, Halls' passion for bread making grew. First delivering his bread to restaurants like Trois Mec and shops like Lindy & Grundy, it didn't take long until the entrepreneur took his place among the bakers of Los Angeles. In late 2014 Hall moved out from his home kitchen and took up shop at the Grand Central Market where he also baked his loaves for passers by to see. Today, a 3000 square foot bakery in Echo Park is taking it's place while the little stand at the Grand Central Market is being upgraded and expected to re-open during December. A little bread cart is still open daily, offering the public loaves and viennoiserie.

The Bread

Our breads, pastries and viennoiserie are inspired by European traditions and old-world methods.We use only high quality, organic ingredients to bring out the best in our breads. Some of the farmers and millers we support are: BKW Farms, Camas Country Mill, Central Milling, Grist & Toll, Keith Giusto Bakery Supply, Shephard's Grain.

country

A naturally leavened bread made with organic wheat, stone-ground whole wheat, natural starter and unrefined sea salt. Very versatile, this bread works great as the base of a sandwich or dunked into a nice warm bowl of soup. Toasts a treat. The perfect 'everyday' bread.

Ingredients: organic wheat flour, stone-ground whole wheat flour, filtered water, natural leaven, unrefined sea salt.


Seeded country

Using the country dough as our base, we add toasted sunflower and sesame seeds and flax seeds to make a loaf with amped up flavor, texture and keeping qualities. Nutritious and hearty, great for sandwiches. Toasting it brings even more nutty aroma from the seeds.

Ingredients: organic wheat flour, stone-ground whole wheat flour, filtered water, organic sunflower seeds, organic sesame seeds, organic flax seeds, natural leaven, unrefined sea salt.

Whole Wheat

Healthy and nutritious. Whole wheat bread contains the bran and germ. Very tender and long-lasting. A naturally leavened bread made from 3 simple ingredients: flour, water and salt.

Ingredients: stone-ground whole wheat flour, filtered water, natural leaven, unrefined sea salt


Danish Rye

Inspired by the bread culture of Scandinavia. Hearty and filling, comforting even. An everyday bread that can be used for open-faced sandwiches, topped with butter, cheese, cold-cuts. Very nutritious from the whole grain rye and sunflower and flax seeds. This bread keeps very well as it is made with over 100% hydration. 

Ingredients: organic stone-ground rye flour, organic wheat flour, organic cracked rye berries, organic sunflower seeds, organic flax seeds, natural rye leaven, unrefined sea salt, yeast.

Raisin walnut

To our whole wheat bread we add organic California Thompson raisins and organic California walnuts. An excellent bread sliced thin, toasted and shmeared with a nice blue or goat cheese.

Ingredients: stone-ground whole wheat flour, filtered water, organic Thompson raisins, organic walnuts, natural leaven, unrefined sea salt

Alpine

An ode to Eastern European breads from Germany and Austria, this time our whole wheat bread gets a dosing of freshly ground coriander and caraway seeds. Reminiscent of a Jewish deli-rye, but whole grain. This bread does make a killer pastrami sandwich.

Ingredients: stone-ground whole wheat flour, filtered water, natural leaven, unrefined sea salt, ground coriander, ground caraway.

French BAguette

The iconic bread of France that has won the world over. Light and chewy crumb, thin and crispy crust. Try it slathered with good butter. There is nothing better.

CIABATTA

Created in Italy... The 'slipper' bread. Light and airy with the aroma of extra virgin olive oil. Works perfectly for sandwiches or panini or simply torn and dunked into olive oil.

Croissant

The croissant is a crispy, buttery delicacy made popular and perfected in France. We use French butter from Normandy to give them a clean, pure butter aroma.

Ingredients: organic wheat flour, French butter, organic sugar, milk powder, unrefined sea salt, yeast
